GCC Forensics Team Wins International Competition, Gives Free Performance, Mar. 28
Competing against two and four year colleges and universities from around the world, the internationally renowned Forensics Team from Glendale Community College has for the third time in four years won major prizes at the International Forensics Association Competition in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Wins at international competitions are becoming almost commonplace for the GCC Team coached by Kirt Shineman. Last year they won first place as Community College Champions in Prague, Czech Republic, and in 2004 they captured the same award in Madrid, Spain. The team will give a free public performance of their work on "Creative Humor" at the Glendale Public Library, 5959 W. GCC Customizes Classes for APS
Arizona Public Service (APS) is the most recent corporate client to take advantage of customized classes from Glendale Community College. When APS found it difficult to handle all the in-house basic electricity courses they offer their employees, they turned to GCC for extra resources and expertise. The college created two 10-week sections of "Concepts of Electricity and Electronics" for 27 APS employees that began in February. Two more sections began March 19. This partnership is expected to continue, as APS has many employees waiting to take the course. APS is just one of many corporate customers who have brought training needs to GCC. Last fall, the college customized a 19-credit Basic Behavioral Health Practitioner Certificate for the employees of Southwest Behavioral Health. Anyone interested in information about corporate training partnerships at GCC can contact Dean of Instruction for Business and Technology Randy Kimmens at

GCC Alumni Association Seeks Board Members
If you attended Glendale Community College and would like to be part of its Alumni Association Board of Directors, the college is looking for you. Individuals who attended GCC are eligible to serve; they need not have graduated or received a degree. "The board only meets four times a year," says Director of Alumni Judy Sánchez, " and serving on it is a wonderful way to become involved with the college and other alumni." The Alumni Association hosts a variety of events each year to raise money for the Alumni Scholarship Endowment. Past events have included a Wine Tasting Evening, Art Shows, Performing Arts, and a Gala Dinner. Anyone interested in exploring board membership can contact Frances Mateo at
frances.mateo@gcmail.maricopa.edu or 623.845.3147.
