More Than 120 Employers at Free GCC Career Expo, March 28

If you are job hunting, career seeking, or changing careers, plan to attend the free, annual Career Expo at Glendale Community College. On Wed., March 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., more than 120 public and private employers will share valuable information about job and educational opportunities. The public will have direct access to employers seeking talent. Many employers will discuss employment or conduct on-the-spot interviews, so participants are encouraged to dress accordingly and bring résumés. Many educational institutions will be present to share information about various career programs. Spokespersons for GCC occupational programs will explain career programs and certificates offered at the college, including biotechnology, automotives, law enforcement, truck driving, fire science and more. GCC's Award-Winning Forensic Team Will Give Free Performance, March 28

What makes people laugh? The international award-winning forensics team from Glendale Community College will give a free public performance that attempts to answer and illustrate that question on Wed., March 28, 7:00 p.m., at the Glendale Public Library, 5959 W. Brown St. in Glendale. Coached and taught by Professor Kirt Shineman, GCC Communication faculty, the students will offer an enlightened evening with intelligent and hilarious examples of what makes people in America laugh. Their performances will explore why we need to laugh, what we find funny, trickster traditions and the social role of anti-establishment humor. Artwork of Nine GCC Students Selected for Herberger Show, April 3

The "Artists of Promise" performance and exhibition on Tues., April 3, 7 p.m., at the Herberger Theater, will display the juried artwork of nine Glendale Community College students as well as students from other Maricopa Community Colleges. The event is free and open to the public. The Herberger is located at 222 E. Monroe in Phoenix. The 2007 Chancellor Awards for art will be presented at 9 p.m., following performances by music and dance winners. An artists' reception will be held at 9:30 p.m. GCC had nine students selected for this honor; no other Maricopa Community College had more. GCC winners are Martine Cloud, Edward Dennis, Elizabeth Everson, Christina Gutierrez, Jonathan Lam, Kathleen Moody, Arlene Powers, Cheri Torres, and Betsy Van Antwerp. Moody was the top GCC student with an acrylic painting titled "Circle Game." Her painting will also be sent to the League for Innovation in the Community College for a national competition. GCC Students Win Seven Awards at Maricopa District-Wide Music Competition

GCC music students took more first place awards than any other Maricopa Community College at the annual district-wide music competition. Glendale Community College always has strong entrants, this year taking firsts in Percussion Ensemble, Marimba Band and Guitar Solo; seconds in Piano Solo and Guitar Solo; third in Marimba solo; and honorable mention in Guitar Quartet II. The percussion students are taught by Doug Nottingham; the guitar students are taught by Chuck Hulihan, and the piano student is taught by Dr. Christina Eide .
