GCC Offers Swimming and Other Mid-Semester Classes
It's not too late to enroll in a college class this semester. Get a jump on summer with new spring swimming lessons in the heated, Olympic-sized swimming pool at Glendale Community College. To enhance swimming skills or improve fitness, sign up and learn an exercise pastime most can enjoy for a lifetime. Registration is now underway for PED103VH, section 2624, which meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2-3 p.m. at the GCC pool. It begins Mar. 20, ends May 3, and costs $49.50 in tuition and fees. Students must be able to swim across the pool, using any stroke or technique. This class is for persons 16 and older. High school students under 18 must call 623.845.3313 for Special Enrollment. louise.keogh@gcmail.maricopa.edu or call 623.845.3883. The class offers .5 college credits. "This is absolutely the best swimming class I've ever taken," says swimming student Mary Jane Onnen. "Louise is able to coach to each student's needs and her enthusiasm for swimming is infectious."
Other mid-semester classes are also available and start in March, including English classes, computer classes, English as a Second Language classes and much more. These are called Open Entry/Self-Paced (OE/SP) classes for which students receive individualized start dates. Free Jazz Big Band Concert at GCC, Mar. 5
A sizzling Jazz Big Band Concert will rock Glendale Community College on Mon., Mar. 5, 7:30 p.m., in the GCC Performing Arts Center. The band is directed by David Schmidt and is known for its genuine and lively big band sound. The concert is free. Parking is also free at the college, located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale.
