Students Encouraged to Apply for Almost $2 Million in GCC Scholarships
Almost $2 million in scholarship money for school year 2007-2008 is available and waiting to be applied for at Glendale Community College. This figure represents a 27% increase over last year's $1.5 million, and is attributable to this year's 24 new scholarships and increased giving from existing donors.
GCC employees also gave more than $76,000 as part of the 40th Anniversary Campaign and established the new "GCC Employees—40th Anniversary Scholarship."
The total scholarship listings have increased by 24 (five are endowed at $10,000 or more), growing from 95 to 119. Most of these allow for multiple awards--if all are awarded, more than 2,000 GCC students will receive scholarships in varying amounts.
Some of the new scholarships are designed for single mothers. There are also scholarships for veterans and their dependents, disabled students, and students of any age entering community college for the first time.
The Rashelle Carpenter, Gene Eastin, Pat Haas, Hank Knowles, Reinhold Kiermayr, and Lida Ruiz Scholarships are new memorials created to honor GCC faculty, staff and students who have died.
The GCC Scholarship Book for 2007-2008 is available in hard copy at the Financial Aid Office and the Office of Student Life. To request a copy by mail, call Frances Mateo at 623.845.3147. Complete information and applications can also be found at www.gc.maricopa.edu/scholarships.
The deadline to turn in applications is Fri., Mar. 30 at 4:00 p.m.
