Transfer Awareness Day at GCC, Feb. 21
Attending a community college and transferring to a university will be explained and made easy when Glendale Community College hosts Transfer Awareness Day Wed., Feb. 21, 9:00-11:30 a.m. The free event will bring more than 35 partner colleges and universities together in the GCC central mall. Students can meet university representatives, gather information, and learn about transfer options. GCC academic advisors on site will enroll students in GCC classes, discuss educational opportunities, and explain the process for university transfer. MCCCD University and College Relations is coordinating this event. Call Karron Cole with questions at 623.845.3063. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale. Parking is free.
GCC Student Union "Grand Re-Opening," March 28
The community is invited to a ribbon-cutting, "Grand Re-Opening" celebration to be held in the remodeled Student Union Building at Glendale Community College (GCC) Wed., Mar. 28, 1:30-3:30 p.m. This project is the first completed major remodel in the Maricopa County Community College District funded by the 2004 capital bond passed overwhelmingly by taxpayers. This free event will celebrate the on-time, on-budget completion of GCC's first major bond construction project. Refreshments will be served. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale; the Student Union is on the south side of campus. Parking is free.
"Kabuki Lady Macbeth" to be Presented at GCC
Combining the style, makeup, and costumes of traditional Japanese Kabuki theatre with a retelling of Shakespeare's "Macbeth" produces an ingenious theatre experience at Glendale Community College. Showing in the GCC Performing Arts Center, performances on Feb. 23 -24 and Mar. 1, 2, and 3 are at 8:00 p.m. A matinee on Feb. 25 is at 2:00 p.m. Told this time from Lady Macbeth's point of view, the famed witches lead us through the tale and warn that balancing light and dark, brave and gentle, is the way to a happy life. All the while they wickedly effect Lady Macbeth's transformation from lady to demon. Tickets are $8 general public, $7 seniors, and $5 GCC students and employees with I.D. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Avenue in Glendale.
Basics of Digital Photography Featured by GCC Professor, Feb. 28
Anyone interested in digital photography but doesn't know where to begin can attend "An Introduction to Digital Photography," a free lecture by Glendale Community College photography professor Brendan Regan. It will be held in the auditorium of the Glendale Public Library, 5959 W. Brown St., Wed., Feb. 28, at 7:00 p.m. Regan will cover the fundamentals needed to get started, including shopping for the right camera, home computer equipment options, printers and basic camera operation.
