GCC Nursing Students' Pass Rate on Licensing Exam Higher Than National Average
Achieving a 98.6% pass rate for the 2nd quarter of 2006 on the nursing licensure exam, Glendale Community College spring 2006 nursing graduates significantly surpassed the average national pass rate of 86%. The National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN) measures the competencies of recent graduates. It is required in each of the 50 states and must be passed before a nurse can practice in that state. The Maricopa County Community College District Nursing Program of which GCC is a part, is the largest nursing program of its kind in the nation. It supplies more than 50% of all nursing graduates for the State of Arizona. GCC provides accessible, quality, and affordable nursing education through partnerships, grant programs, scholarships, and alternative class-delivery methods. For information about GCC Nursing, contact www.gc.maricopa.edu/nursing or 623.845.3200. Be sure to inquire about GCC's summer program for high school sophomores and juniors called Future Nurses Camp. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale.
"American Shaman" to Give Free Presentation at GCC, Jan. 24
Called the "Marco Polo of psychology" and an "American Shaman," Dr. Bradford Keeney will speak about worldwide healing techniques in a free public presentation Wed., Jan 24 at 7 p.m. The community is invited to hear and learn from this inspiring speaker in the Glendale Community College Performing Arts Center, 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale. Following an academic career as a family psychotherapist working at the renowned Karl Menninger Clinic and other institutions, he spent more than a decade traveling the globe, listening to shamans, healers, and medicine people. Elders of indigenous peoples throughout the world—including the Kalahari Bushmen, the Caribbean Shakers of St. Vincent, the Guarani Indians of the Amazon, and the Japanese Seiki Jutsu healers—have embraced Keeney as an elder and spokesperson for their ways of ecstatic shamanism. He now travels the world sharing their practices. The result of Keeney's work is a broad and intense field study of healing and shamanism, chronicled in his critically acclaimed Profiles of Healing, an eleven-volume encyclopedia of the world's healing practices.
