New Spring Classes at GCC: Biotech Basics, Literature Performance and More

Several new classes, in addition to hundreds more, will be offered to the community by Glendale Community College this spring. Communication (COM) 241, "Performance of Literature," covers the study, analysis and preparation for performance of prose, poetry, and dramatic literature. Anyone with a desire to perform in public will benefit from this class. Prerequisite is ENG 101 or equivalent. Biotechnology (BIO) 107 includes an introduction to the biotech field and its global impact on society. It covers applications, lab techniques, international benefits and risks, and legal and moral issues associated with biotechnology. There are no prerequisites. Counseling and Personal Development (CPD) 160, "Introduction to Multiculturalism," will be offered in a new format—online only—for the first time. This convenient class format examines the multiple subcultures within the U.S., develops awareness and appreciation of multiculturalism, and imparts skills for recognizing and mediating cultural factors impacting conflict among diverse cultures. Extended January Hours For Spring Enrollment at GCC

Enrollment in spring classes at Glendale Community College is underway, and the college plans additional Saturday registration hours in January to accommodate brisk enrollment. Through Dec. 15, the Enrollment Center is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 18-21, it is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 22, 8 a.m. to noon. The campus will be closed Dec. 23, 2006 through Jan. 1, 2007. January registration hours: Jan. 2-31: Mon.- Thurs., 8 a.m.- 7:30 p.m.; Fri., 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Enrollment Center will be open on three January Saturdays as well: Jan. 6, 13, and 21, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Ave., in Glendale. The Enrollment Center is on the south side of the campus.

GCC North Seeks Public Input on Construction, Jan. 10

Glendale Community College North invites the community to a third public forum on Wed., Jan. 10, 6-7 p.m. in room 105 for the latest details about master plan building projects. This forum will address landscaping, sidewalks and curbed entrances required by the City of Phoenix, and a proposal to the City of Phoenix regarding an east side property easement and sidewalk. The GCC North Master Plan is funded by a successful bond election in 2004. The GCC North campus is located at 5727 W. Happy Valley Road.
