Mentoring

Who Are Mentors

Mentors come from all over the GCC campus. Students will find administrators, faculty, and staff from many different departments ready to share of their time, expertise, and experiences with students.

How Do Mentors Help?

Mentors and students are matched based on information provided by both parties. When a faculty mentor is assigned, the attempt is made to match students with a mentor who teaches in the area of the student's major. New students often find themselves overwhelmed by the college environment, i.e. systems such as financial aid and academic advisement.

A Mentor Can...

  • Provide encouragement and support
  • Help map out an academic plan
  • Help identify clear and realistic goals
  • Support educational and career goals
  • Teach the language of our campus
  • Share the philosophy of our campus
  • Provide feedback on a student's progress
  • Provide "inside" information
  • Facilitate networking on campus
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources
