Memorials: Honoring and Remembering
Location, Installation and Maintenance

The college will determine the final campus location and specifications for all outdoor memorials and types of vegetation. This is to insure that all memorials are coordinated with the college's Master Plan and can be supported by its maintenance capabilities (i.e. irrigation). Additionally, the college will work with those sponsoring the memorial on size, materials, wording and placement.

Installation will normally be accomplished by the college's Maintenance and Operations staff. In some cases, this will be a multi-stage process. For example, the ground around newly planted trees takes several months to settle before a plaque can be placed. During any resettlement period, plaques and other items will be stored by the college.

The college will bear all costs for site preparation for vegetation, concrete bases for plaques, and the maintenance of same. The college will also replace trees and bushes for a period of ten years following dedication. In the event that trees are destroyed after this period of time, the college will annotate the loss in its records. No notification of the employee's family or representative will be required. The college is not responsible for theft or vandalism of a memorial, though colleagues may initiate action to repair/replace plaques, outdoor furnishings, decorations or other physical memorials.

As the college continues to expand, relocation of a memorial may be necessary. Whenever possible, relocation plans will be coordinated with the employee's family or representative. New locations will be annotated in the college's records.
