Finding Textbooks

Generally, the library does NOT purchase textbooks. However, some instructors put copies of the class textbook on reserve at the library where the book may be checked out for limited periods of time. New Books & Video - November 2008

GCC Libraries added more than 400 titles to the collection in November. More than 40 titles were added to each of the following subjects: history, social science and business, political science and law, language and literature, and medicine and nursing. 30 titles were added to the math and science collection and 25 titles were added to the education collection.

Human Rights Day - December 10

December 10 is international Human Rights Day and marks the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR is a statement of principles signed onto by every member country of the United Nations. It establishes - in 30 articles - the fundamental human rights to which all people are entitled.

Rosa Parks Day is December 1

On the evening of December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks, was arrested for disobeying an Alabama law requiring black passengers to relinquish seats to white passengers when the bus was full. Blacks also were required to sit at the back of the bus. Her arrest sparked a 381-day boycott of the Montgomery bus system and led to a 1956 Supreme Court decision banning segregation on public transportation. (Library of Congress: This Day in History)

Thanksgiving Weekend Hours

GCC libraries will be closed on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28 in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. The library at GCC Main will reopen on Saturday at 7:00 am. GCC North library will remain closed through Monday, December 1.

Laramie Project: Performance & Info

In observance of the tenth anniversary of the murder of Matthew Shepard in Wyoming, The Laramie Project will be performed at Glendale Community College. The library provides many resources that support the exploration of this incident including analysis from scholarly journals, articles from ethnic and religious publications, and books about hate crimes and homophobia.
