Law Enforcement (General) Instructor

This class certifies an officer to be an AzPOST General Instructor. The purpose of the course is to provide participants with the basic skills and knowledge necessary to describe factors affecting adult learners; demonstrate an understanding of training liability issues; create effective performance objectives; describe appropriate presentation techniques; demonstrate proficiency in lesson plan format and development; identify applicable evaluation instruments; and successfully demonstrate instructional ability through four separate timed, oral presentations.

Successful completion of this program will qualify participants to be eligible for other AzPOST instructor programs, e.g., Firearms Instructor, High Risk Stops Instructor, etc.

Format: The class will be taught over four days, 10 hours per day. In the fall it will be taught during the week and in the spring it will be done on the weekend.

Costs: 3 credit hours plus $15 lab fee. There is also a $15 registration fee if you are not currently enrolled at GCC.

Prerequisites:
• Must be an Arizona certified peace officer.
• Must have two years of certified peace officer experience.
• Certified status begins on graduation date, not hire date.

Note: Students are encouraged to bring a laptop, disks, props/visual aids for use in presentations on non-law enforcement related topics of their choice.
