Team Profile – GCCN Team IT

It was a Friday afternoon as this reporter headed up the road to a remote location known as GCC North. It’s just a few miles down the road from the main campus and yet, it feels like a different world. This becomes apparent as you wind your way through the foothills on the scenic drive to GCC North. The cactus, roadrunners and coyotes are scattered throughout the landscape and are always present on the horizon like a picture perfect post card.

TechHelpGCC North and Main campuses share the same computing resources, infrastructure and personnel that rotate to campus to lend additional support. The permanent staff is flexible with their time and talents. A typical day at GCC North could include a shift at the Helpdesk, proctoring a computerized test, changing toner, imaging machines or assisting students in the 45-station computer lab. Additional computing resources at GCC North include 3 classrooms with 25 stations each, 20 multimedia instructor stations, and 6 workstations in the adjunct faculty commons area.

There is a wonderful sense of teamwork and pride as you talk to staff members about their role but it really boils down to this…everybody does a little bit of everything and working with students is always the priority.

The location and scenery are the “bonus” parts of the job as the IT Team provides personalized services to students and staff. This reporter gives it four stars…if you have the opportunity; I highly recommend the journey…it will provide a different insight to all who visit…
