Since I started at GCC a little less than a year ago, we have done some minor restructuring in IT. More importantly, we are beginning to look (and act) like one department. To affirm that “oneness,” all of IT is now known as the Office of Information Technology (which makes sense as I am the VP of Information Technology). KC Hundere’s department is formally College Network Operations (which also makes sense as they manage the College’s Network Operations Center). Dorene Kessler is director of College Technology Services which serves the College’s technology training, service desk, technician, and computer lab needs. Finally, Theresa Hilding directs College Application Services with a renewed focus on project methodology, and consolidating and leveraging information available in College data stores.

Theresa also presented the value of deploying SharePoint at GCC at an IT Learning Lunch in March, and in this issue she gives you some more detail about that project. Other great articles in this issue include: Jerry Porter, Director of Marketing and Public Relations, had a great idea for our first “You Asked For IT” section…so we asked him to be a guest author on this topic. We are also coming to the end of our eGCC migration and Josh Krek gives you an update on that project as well.

When faculty returns in August, we’ll have an issue ready for you that will highlight Gmail for students, the Business Building remodel, and more! Until then, OIT will be working hard to get GCC ready for another exciting academic year. Enjoy your summer!!
