2003 Greiser-Kaman
A recent Arizona Republic article referring to the Maricopa colleges, stated, "...what they offer is attracting not only more and more students but more and more top students." Kait Greiser-Kaman, GCC Honors student, managing editor of The Voice, and recent scholarship recipient, is a perfect example of one of those top students. She recently accepted a scholarship/grant package exceeding $31,000 a year from prestigious Smith College for women in Massachusetts. The package, renewable as long as her grades meet certain standards, will total $93,000 over the three years it will take her to complete a double major in Anthropology and Sociology. Kait will move to Massachusetts in August and plans to live on campus. When praised for her achievements at GCC, Kait is generous in her praise of people she credits with helping her to succeed, saying, "I am so grateful to several GCC personnel who have helped me and have become good friends in the process." She cites her involvement with the GCC Mentoring Program as key to her success, and mentions several people on campus as special supporters: Trini Sandoval, Mentoring Program Coordinator; Johnnie May, English faculty and Kait's mentor; Dr. Linda Smith, Anthropology faculty; Dr. Mary Leskovsky, Honors Program Coordinator; Dr. Bonnie Saunders, adjunct History professor; and Ellen Gallon, advisor.
