Eligibility for the Honors Program

Presidents' Scholarship

for New Students

Deadlines for applying for Honors Fee Waiver Program are August 24, for Spring and January 23 for Spring semester.

Recent graduates from an NCA accredited high school within Maricopa County may apply for the President's Scholarship. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must verify that they rank in the top 15% of their graduating class in the 6th, 7th or 8th semester. Eligible students must enroll in the academic year following high school graduation. Enrollment in any institution other than one of the Maricopa Community Colleges (summers excepted) will nullify the Presidents' Scholarship.

Recent high school graduates who did not rank in the top 15% of their respective high school classes or who graduated from non-NCA accredited high schools are eligible to apply for the Presidents' Scholarship if they have scored exceptionally high on the ASSET Placement Test, as indicated below.

ASSET Test Scores

Subject Score Placement or Exemption
English 51-54 Place in Honors English
Reading 47-53 Exempt from CRE 101
Mathematics Placement in MAT120 or higher

The Presidents' Scholarship covers the cost of in-county tuition for 15 credits hours per semester. The scholarship is automatically renewed for a total of four consecutive semesters (summers excluded) as long the student meets the following criteria.

To retain a Presidents' Scholarship, students must:

  • Complete a minimum of 12 credits within the semester (Pass/Fail credits excluded) each Fall and Spring semester.
  • Complete at least one honors course each semester with a grade of "C" or higher.
  • Maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.250 or higher. (Cumulative GPA does include all colleges/universities and summer courses.)
  • Maintain continuous enrollment for the four semesters (summer session excluded).

Students whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.25, but no lower than 3.00 at the end of their first semester, will retain their Presidents' Scholarship for their second semester only with the provision they raise their cumulative GPA to 3.25 prior to the start of their third semester. Students whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.0 at the end of their first semester will lose their Presidents' Scholarship, which cannot be reinstated. Placement on academic probation or suspension will result in loss of scholarship, which cannot be reinstated. See Academic Probation and Suspension in the College General Catalog for further information.
