How Do I Access My Email From Off Campus?

There are two ways to get access to your email from off-campus:

Web Interface available at https://student.gc.maricopa.edu/

Point your browser to the following address: https://student.gc.maricopa.edu/. Enter your Username and Password where prompted, and click on the "Enter" button. To read your email, click on the "Inbox" link, and click on "New" to write an email.

Use Your Favorite Email Client on Your Home Computer.

The example below is for Outlook Express 6.0:

What you need to know before you configure Outlook Express 6.0 (or your favorite email client) to receive your eGCC Email account here on campus or at home is the following:

  • Incoming mail server type: IMAP
  • Incoming mail server: student.gc.maricopa.edu
  • Outgoing mail server: student.gc.maricopa.edu (SEE NOTE)
  • Your eGCC Username
  • Your eGCC Password
  • Your eGCC Email Address: eGCCUsername@student.gc.maricopa.edu

NOTE for those setting up at home: Do you use either of the following companies' services for your internet service? If so, take note...

Cox Communications: Please set the Outgoing mail server to smtp.west.cox.net.

AOL: The Outgoing mail server is still student.gc.maricopa.edu, but you will need to follow additional instructions to get your eGCC Email account working properly. Once you have completed the steps below, please continue to the next section regarding having AOL as your Internet Service Provider.

Now, to configure Outlook Express 6.0, read the following directions before proceeding, just so you have a better understanding of the process:

  1. Start Outlook Express.
  2. Click on "Tools" located in the Menu Bar, and select "Accounts...".
  3. Click "Add" and select "Mail". The "Internet Connection Wizard" window will appear and will take you through a series of questions.
  4. For your "Display Name", type your name (eg: John Doe). Click "Next".
  5. For your "Internet Email address", type eGCCUsername@student.gc.maricopa.edu, replacing eGCCUsername with your eGCC Username. Click "Next".
  6. For "Email Server Names", select "IMAP" as your Incoming Mail Server's type (THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!).
  7. Type student.gc.maricopa.edu as both the Incoming and Outgoing Email Server. If you're setting this up at home and your internet service provider is Cox or AOL, see the light red box above.
  8. For "Internet Mail Logon", enter your eGCC Username as your "Account Name", and leave the Password box blank. Uncheck both boxes next to "Remember Password" and "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)".Click "Next".
  9. For the "Congratulations" message, click "Finish".
  10. If you're asked to populate folders from the mail server, click "Yes". If you aren't asked to do so, simply double-click on the inbox under "student.gc.maricopa.edu". You'll be asked to provide your Password at this time. Once your login is accepted, you'll see a list of folders in a new window. Click "OK" to accept. You should now see your eGCC email!

It is very important that you define your Incoming Mail Server's type as IMAP. If not, your settings will not work.

To test this account, simply create a new email message (click "New" at the top of the Outlook Express window to do so) and send the email to yourself at your eGCC Email account. If you receive that message in your Inbox, you're done! If not, start the process over again.

NOTE: The left-hand column of the default Outlook display may include a section labeled Local Mail under which is listed folders (including "Inbox") that are not associated with your eGCC Mail. To access your eGCC Mail, click on the student.gc.maricopa.edu heading in the left-hand column. The program may prompt you to create folders for that section before the Inbox for your eGCC Mail account is added to the display.
