GED Testing at GCC North

General Information

  • All GED applicants must pre-register in person and pay for the test at least 24 hours before testing.
  • GED testing will be closed August 8 - 31, 2008.
  • Cost of the test is $65.00 for the entire test battery and $10.00 for each additional retest.
  • Cost of the GED test will increase, September 1, 2008, to $75.00 for the entire test and $15.00 for each additional retest
  • If you do not pass the first time, you may retest. A retest is given after a 30 day waiting period and must be taken using a different GED test form.
  • Test results will be sent by mail and normally arrive in approximately one to two weeks. We cannot give test scores over the phone.
  • Passing scores require a total of 2,250 points, an average score of 450 points, and a minimum score of 410 in each area. All three requirements must be met to receive the GED Diploma.
  • A maximum of three tests is allowed in each area per year.
  • If you require special accommodations, please let us know two months prior to taking the test.

  • Writing Skills
    • Part 1. 50 Questions (1 hour and 15 minutes)
    • Part 2. Essay (45 minutes)
  • Social Studies
    • 50 Questions (1 hour and 10 minutes)
  • Science
    • 50 Questions (1 hour and 20 minutes)
  • Language Arts, Reading
    • 40 questions (1 hour and 5 minutes)
  • Math: Two Parts
    • Part 1. 25 Questions (45 minutes, calculator use allowed)
    • Part 2. 25 Questions (45 minutes, no calculator allowed)

Forms of ID

You must present the following:
  • Two valid forms of identification that include applicant's name, address, signature and date of birth. One must be a government/state issued photo ID, and the other must be a valid form of secondary ID.

Individuals between 16 and 17 years of age must provide the following:

  • Notarized statement from parent of legal guardian giving permission to test.
  • Verification of formal withdrawal from last school attended and not currently enrolled in any school.
  • Picture identification - government/state issued ID.
  • Proof of Age - birth certificate or passport.

Primary Identificiation

  • Current Driver's License or State-issued Identification card (ID may be from any state as long as it's valid. Arizona ID card may be obtained through Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles; certified birth certificate required)
  • Valid passport (may be foreign or domestic)
  • Military ID
  • Other forms of Government-issued (foreign, domestic, tribal) ID (must show: Name, address, date of birth, signature and photograph)

Secondary Identification

  • Current post-secondary (college) student ID (must show: Name, address, date of birth, signature and photograph)
  • Certified copy of Birth Certificate (when combined with any of the above photo ID)
  • Social Security card (when combined with any of the above photo ID).
  • Arizona DPS Class One/Class Two Fingerprint cards (when combined with any of the above photo ID)
  • Credit cards with photo ID
  • Bank cards with photo ID
  • High School student ID (with photo)
  • Workplace ID (with photo)

Unacceptable Identification

  • Letters from foreign government consulates
  • Check cashing ID cards
  • Tourist Cards
  • Costco/Sam's Club cards
  • Library cards
  • Insurance cards

Testing Rules

  • No food or drinks allowed in testing room
  • You must show one form of ID every time you come in to take a test. It must be a government/state issued photo ID.
  • No personal items will be allowed in the testing room.
  • Once you start the test, the $65.00 is nonrefundable.
  • You must arrive 30 minutes before testing is scheduled to start. If you are late, you will need to reschedule.
  • Once testing begins, candidates will not be permitted to leave the testing room. Leaving the testing room will result in termination of the test.
  • When you complete a test, and a GED Examiner is administering a test to another examinee, please wait at your seat until the GED Examiner instructs you to proceed to the sign-in/out desk.
  • The GED Examiner is responsible for providing a quality testing environment. The GED Examiner has the right to dismiss any candidate that is disrupting the testing environment.
