Japanese Swordsmenship

Shao-lin Staff

The staff of Shao lin is considered the mother of all Chinese weapons. This course is designed to introduce the student to the basics stances, blocks, swings, smash, whips, flicks and thrusts of the Shao lin staff. The class will be lead through a traditional Shao lin staff routing. If you can do Shao lin Staff you have the base to learn any weapon with greater ease.

Intro to Rock Climbing

This is the quickest way to get you climbing! This class allows students with busy schedules to learn the basics of rock climbing in one weekend! Class will cover beginning techniques to include; movement, basic knots, types of climbing, and safety. Classroom portion and climbing portion will both be held at a rock gym.
Rock Climbing

Students will learn beginning climbing skills, including equipment, knots, anchoring, belaying, and climbing techniques in an indoor climbing gym. No previous experience is necessary. Rock climbing helps develop strength and confidence. A required fee of $65.00 must be paid to the Solid Rock Climbing Gym at the first class meeting. The $65.00 fee includes use of indoor climbing gym, shoes and safety harness.
Rock Climbing/Intermediate

Self Defense for Women

Real self-defense begins with the certainty of your moral right to defend yourself and your willingness to so do. This class focuses on fear management, taking what is typically thought to be a negative emotion and turning it into a powerful response in times of crisis. You will learn first and foremost how to remain alert and aware so as to avoid potentially dangerous situations as well as alert signals to watch for. You will also learn highly effective ways to deal with violent assaults.
Urban Self Defense Level I

In this basic class, the student, experienced or not, will develop their basic self-defense skills, ground-fighting skills, and stand-up fighting capabilities. This class can be modified depending upon the skill level of the class. Practice is based on real-life experiences, and endurance enhancing drills. This class will prove to enhance one's self confidence, stamina, and self-defense skills against any goal-oriented/focused individuals.
Slimnastics

This is a mat-based stretch and relaxation class with low-lights and soft relaxing music. Stretching helps prevent injuries and increases flexibility and range of motion. Relaxation helps to relieve stress and lowers blood pressure.

Taekwondo

A Korean Martial Art that focuses on Traditional Taekwondo techniques and Olympic styles. The class is instructed by Master Soon through the World Taekwondo Federation and the Kukkiwon in Seoul, Korea. Teaches the Five Tenets of Taekwondo: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, discipline and self-control. The philosophy of Taekwondo encompasses the connection between mind and body while incorporating skills in self defense and overall physical and mental well-being. Taekwondo is a competitive sport but more importantly, is a way of life. Students are required to purchase a uniform (dobok) Belt promotion testing and tournaments are optional. Students will be introduced to the Korean language while learning Taekwondo terminology.
Olympic Taekwondo

Olympic style of taekwondo uses less traditional techniques adapted from the traditional movements in order to comply with Olympic standards for sparring techniques.

Class is designed to allow students to improve their physical fitness in a supervised free weight training facility. The Powerhouse is open Monday through Friday mornings, 8:00am – 12:00pm and Monday through Thursday evenings 5:00-7:00pm. Work out during times that fit your schedule. Grade is based on attendance and participation. Students must bring their GCC ID card to the weight room. Wilderness Survival Skills

This two day, one night wilderness adventure is a "hands-on" introduction to primitive living skills and wilderness survival. Students will learn friction fire making, wild edible plant identification, primitive tool making, shelter building and primitive cooking. Beginning backpacking and hiking skills recommended, but not required.
YOGA
Yoga/Pilates

Yoga/Pilates will be a class fusion of yoga and pilates. Basic yoga poses mixed with pilates core training. This class will strengthen and stretch your whole body.
Eclectic Yoga

"An Eclectic" style of Hatha Yoga made up of elements from many different styles of Yoga. Being more of a "vigorous" class than "gentle". Class will focus on developing a "vinyasa", or "flow" to the practice. All levels of students are welcome.
Gentle Yoga

A gentle body-work class of floor exercise done on a soft foam mat, with some standing postures taught after a few weeks. Learn how to identify tension-points in the body, and how to release them through diaphragmatic breathing and relaxing stretches.
Hatha Yoga

A combination of traditional and flow style yoga that utilizes breathing, yoga poses, relaxation and meditation to create balance and inner peace. Inner and outer strength, flexibility and focus cone from class practice. Challenging for both the beginner and advanced student.
Power Yoga
