New Procedures to Complete the Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN)
Students awarded a Stafford loan can complete and sign (e-sign) their Master Promissory Note (MPN) on-line by clicking this box. This MUST be done before you can receive your student loan funds. It will be approximately 15 business days from the time you receive your award letter before you can access your MPN.Please read through the following items before beginning.
Requirements to complete your MPN on-line are:
- Adobe Acrobat Reader version 4.01 or greater
- Internet Browser: Netscape 4.08 - 4.72 or MS Internet Explorer 4.01 SP 1 or greater
- a working printer, and
- you will need to provide two (2) references. Family members are suggested. The two references you use cannot reside at the same address and must have working phone numbers.
Tips for sucess:
- Do not use your internet browser's back button. This can cause problems.
- You will be printing out nine (9) pages total; page eight (8) is the Master Promissory Note (MPN). If you e-sign your MPN, you will need to keep all pages for your records.
- If you do NOT e-sign your MPN, you will need to sign, date and mail page eight (8) to the address listed on page one (1).
- If you encounter any problems or cannot complete the process, please click the "Save for Later" button.
To complete your MPN on-line just follow the steps below:
1. Click on the box above entitled On-Line Loan Application (MPN)
2. Input your Social Security number and birth date (as shown in the example), then click on "Start Application Process"
3. Follow the instructions closely throughout the process. Be sure to click "Submit" after you print your promissory note.
4. When the process is complete you should see a "Thank You" screen that confirms that your electronic signature (e-sign) has been accepted.
Once you have submitted your MPN, either electronically or by mail and it has been guaranteed by Sallie Mae, the lender you have chosen (see GCC Lending Partners ) will forward the funds to the school based on the scheduled disbursement dates determined by the school.
Reminder: All loans are distributed in two (2) disbursements. Prior to the release of your second disbursement you are required to complete an Exit Counseling session. You can complete the counseling session by clicking here: Exit Loan Counseling. It is recommended that if you are receiving a Fall only loan that you complete the Exit Counseling session in early October. For Fall/Spring loans, complete the Exit Counseling in December. For Spring only loans, please complete Exit Counseling in early March. For Summer loan checks, please check with the Financial Aid office.
