Accident/Emergency Care Procedures For Students
In the event of an accident or emergency, contact the Public Safety Department at 5-3535. Public Safety will contact Glendale Fire/Emergency Medical Services and they will respond to campus. In situations such as cardiac arrest or profuse bleeding where survival is a factor, call 911 first and then notify Public Safety immediately thereafter. It is possible to dial 911 from campus telephones without dialing "9" first to get an outside line. Explain your exact location and the type of emergency; then immediately call Public Safety at 5-3535. (Failure to remain on the line and provide an exact location will delay the response time of Emergency Medical Services because they have no means of determining your location.)
Student Accident Insurance Plan
The Maricopa County Community College District holds a Student Accident Insurance Plan for all GCC students enrolled in credit classes at no cost to the student. The plan may provide secondary coverage for related medical expenses due to accidents occurring while the eligible student is attending class, traveling to, from, or for class, or participating in an activity that is sponsored, calendared, and supervised by the college.
In the event of an accident involving a student, follow proper procedures to insure the welfare of the student and his/her eligibility for insurance coverage, and to minimize the liability risk to the college.
If a student is involved in an accident while under your non-work supervision, please follow these procedures:
1. Contact the Public Safety Office at 5-3535 to inform them of the incident and notify them of any safety issues that may be involved.
2. Refer the student to the Office of Student Life to complete an Accident Report form.
Note: Accidents occurring at GCC North should be reported to the Public Safety Department by calling 623.845.4110.
The Maricopa County Community College District also makes available to students an affordable health insurance plan. Brochures are available from the Office of Student Life.
