Exercise is Medicine on Campus

Exercise is Medicine on Campus

In May 2015, GCC was awarded the silver-level Exercise is Medicine campus recognition by the American College of Sports Medicine. Read more about the award in this news release.

As part of the EIM-On Campus initiative, we want to make sure that qualified fitness professionals are available on our campus to serve the needs of campus community, which includes employees, students, and the general public. We embrace the notion that movement matters for health and wellness.

New Walking Work Station in the CTLE

Sitting causes your body all sorts of pain and problems. GCC Employees can take advantage of the Walking Workstation located in the CTLE. Schedule a 30 minute session and watch a webinar or professional development video, read an article or website, or check your email all while walking at a slow pace. This isn’t a workout; it is work time! Come in some comfy shoes and get moving while you keep working. Click here to view the awesome orientation video and agree to the Walking Workstation required acknowledgement.

We Train the Professionals

Students can take advantage of the Exercise Science and Personal Training certificate and degree programs. We prepare our students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to train individuals or groups. These trainers can immediately enter the workforce or transfer to university and finish programs in Exercise and Wellness, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Athletic Training, and Dietetics, just to name a few.

Qualified Staff and Great Facilities

We hire only the most qualified fitness professionals who share their knowledge, skills and abilities with employees, students and the local community. The Adapted Fitness Center designs fitness programs for individuals with disabilities. The Fitness Centers on the Main and North campus feature cardio and strength equipment and a myriad of specialty fitness classes including yoga, cycling, swimming, and boot camp style sessions. We also offer mind/body, wellness and recreation classes. Our Physical Activity (PED) classes include line dancing, hiking, camping, Pilates...you name it, we have it! The aquatics schedule includes swim lessons, open lap swim and group classes. The newly opened Sports Performance Lab offers advanced fitness testing for our local amateur and professional athletes.
