Program Description

The GCC Behavioral Health Science program focuses on practical training and job development skills to help prepare students for careers as behavioral health technicians, case managers, parent aides, family advocates, respite care workers, and paraprofessional counselors. The program includes courses designed to provide students with the skills necessary to deliver basic, specialized, and comprehensive behavioral health services. The core focus of the program is practical training and service learning experiences.

Behavioral Health Science (BHS) Occupational Outlook

The Counseling Center offers Behavioral Health (BHS) courses. The field of Behavioral Health Services is growing rapidly in Arizona and throughout the United States. According to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau, job opportunities for social and human service assistants are expected to grow "much faster than average." In Arizona, The Department of Commerce 2006-2016 (http://www.workforce.az.gov), Statewide Long Term Occupation Projections report an increase of 45% during this period, resulting in approximately 197 annual openings for social and human service assistants.

Counseling/Personal Development (CPD)Classes


The Counseling Center offers a variety of Counseling / Personal Development (CPD) classes. Classes have no prerequisites and may transfer as university electives. Many courses are offered in the mini-semester (late-start) format.
