Types of Counseling

GCC Counseling Faculty are available to help students who wish to improve the quality of their academic and personal lives. Sessions are free of charge and are confidential Rule of Confidentiality

Types of Counseling:

  • Academic/study skills: Counselors help students develop effective study skills, create academic goals, and recognize and overcome barriers to success. Topics of discussion may include test anxiety, procrastination, lack of direction, and adjusting to college life.
  • Career Exploration: Counselors help students assess interests, values, personality and life style. Students investigate, identify and select potential careers and majors.
  • Personal Issues: The college years are exciting and challenging but at times the demands can be complicating and overwhelming. Counseling is short term and focuses on problem-solving and decision-making processes related to helping students overcome difficulties. In cases where professional counseling is needed, students are referred to the community for psychotherapy.
  • Crisis: Counselors are available during business hours to assist with emotional difficulties that warrant immediate intervention. Individuals may be referred to off-campus agencies or professionals.
