Computer Technician

Representative Duties
Assists students, faculty and staff in using personal computers, software, and materials; maintains and prepares computer classrooms; communicates hardware and software problems to computer repair staff; provides minor maintenance assistance as necessary; uses helpdesk software to maintain records; interprets documentation on software and hardware; installs and troubleshoots computer equipment; writes step by step instructions for simple tasks; performs computer operator duties; installs computer cables and hardware; performs related duties as assigned

Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of computer hardware and software for personal computer systems; peripherals, educational and administrative computer applications; local-area networking; associated equipment and cabling; wiring standards and configurations; network operating systems.

Ability to: analyze and interpret software documentation; install software and equipment; write user documentation for simple tasks; perform minor maintenance tasks on computers and peripherals; maintain records; maintain inventory of equipment and supplies; communicate effectively orally and in writing; and establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  Desired experience would be coursework, skills, or experience in computer workstation maintenance, Microsoft, Linux, Cisco, computer programming, computer networking, or web page design.
