CAD Technicians prepare technical drawings, plans, and graphic presentations to build everything from houses and buildings to highways, bridges and products such as toys, toasters, machinery and spacecraft. [pie chart] Career opportunities for skilled CAD technicians are growing faster than the supply. Jobs are available in Architecture, Manufacturing, Engineering, Civil/Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Aerospace, Interior Design, Landscape Design, Animation, Graphics, and more.

Employment Outlook
Industrial growth and increasingly complex design problems associated with new products is increasing the demand for CAD drafting services.

The role of a CAD technician is changing, with CAD technicians gaining increasing responsibilities that used to be performed by architects and engineers.

This is increasing demand, but with increased employer expectations and the more powerful CAD software available today, employers are looking for highly skilled drafters that know and understand the software well.

Opportunities are greater for those with a 2-year degree and with the ability to apply their knowledge to a broad range of responsibilities.

The GCC CAD program trains in-depth applications of CAD technology to increase your skills for a broad range of career opportunities.
[income chart] Earnings vary by specialty and level of responsibility. Salaries range from $24,000 to $68,900 annually. The median range is $36,000 to $48,000.
