Ellis Academic Achievement Award
for Excellence in Biology

Awarded in recognition of exemplary achievement and outstanding promise in biology. Committee selects recipients from among students who have completed at least three biology courses at GCC.

Award is named in honor of Albert "Bud" Ellis, Ph.D., one of the original faculty members in the Department of Biology at Glendale Community College. He retired from GCC in 1998. Dr. Ellis loved to share the living world with students. Although a geneticist by training, Dr. Ellis brought a broad knowledge of biology to the department. He has a knowledge of the natural history of his adopted state that is second to none. An outstanding teacher himself, Bud Ellis encouraged his colleagues to make quality instruction a priority. He was instrumental in departmental efforts to develop instructional materials in support of student learning. In honor of Dr. Ellis, the Department of Biology confers this award annually on exemplary students who share his passion of biology and his dedication to achieving excellence.
