Academic Assessment

Program Level Assessment

A second level of assessment addresses the 84 professional, occupational, transfer and developmental programs offered at GCC. Measurement often occurs through some form of capstone instrument (e.g. the State Certification Exam (NCLEX) for Nursing students); by measuring transfer student performance at a university, comparing the students' performance against those who began at the university; or by measuring student progression through a sequence of courses (e.g. a developmental series of English courses leading to success in ENG 101 and 102). Assessment techniques and instruments vary widely, and include both direct and indirect measures. Departments monitor program assessment via a Five Column model, which is updated annually.
