Brad Hall
Adjunct Faculty
Department of Applied Technology

Brad Hall was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and showed an interest in art almost immediately. Never considering for a moment any other career than art, Brad donated his time and talents to projects for his church and school. Brad was eager to embrace future technologies in typography and graphics later in life. Beginning his college education in 1976 at North Hennepin Community College in Osseo, Minnesota, focusing on Advertising and Typography. He earned his degree in Graphic Design at Arizona State University. The combination of excellent teachers at ASU, including David Morgan and Lonnie Whittington, and the rigors of freelance work had prepared Brad for a lifetime career in Graphic Design.

Brad started doing freelance graphic design under the “company name” of “Brad Hall Advertising Art”. In 1986 he was hired as a Graphic Designer by Blue Cross of California, Corporate Headquarters, in Los Angeles , and within two years, was promoted to Lead Designer. This was based upon his knowledge of graphic design and passion for his art but also by his willingness to embrace a new technology that had come into the field: “desktop publishing”.

During his time with Blue Cross, Brad was sent to training on nearly every type of computer and publishing system then being invented: At IBM in Boulder, Colorado, he learned “BookMaster”; In El Segundo, California, Brad learned “Ventura Publisher” from Xerox; Of course, he learned “Page Maker” for Macintosh, which became the industry standard until QuarkXPress eclipsed it. Brad returned to Arizona in 1989 to work for another in-house department at Valley National Bank, which was taken over by Bank One. From 1990 to 1996, Brad worked with QuarkXPress, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop creating collateral material for Bank One, as one of the Senior Designers. Other software include work with Macromedia Dreamweaver for web page design, Macromedia Flash for animation and Adobe Photoshop, ImageReady and Macromedia Fireworks for image manipulation.

In September of 1996 Brad began teaching at The Art Institute of Phoenix, where he taught for five years. Brad started as an adjunct faculty at Glendale Community College in August of 2001.

Major in Graphic Design
My background is as a graphic designer, which I pursued early on as an
employee at ad agencies and larger companies in the Phoenix area and for the
last 20 years as the owner of my own business. I started out doing print-
related work, from paste-up to art direction way back in the old days, to web
design and development more recently. I have taught graphic design, web design,
Photoshop, Quark Express, Dreamweaver, and Flash at Glendale Community College.
I am currently developing and teaching online classes in computer
graphics and graphics software applications.

When I'm not working, you might find me hiking one of the many trails
in the Phoenix area, riding my bike or rehabbing my historic house.
