Course Syllabus

Essentials for Design Macromedia Flash 8: Level One

You will need to have access to ®Macromedia Flash 8 software.

"Students not purchasing their own software can utilize High Tech Center I (HTCI)  at Glendale Community College, 6000 West Olive Avenue, Glendale AZ 85308.  It is strongly recommended that students attend the HTC Orientation session.  For the Orientation Schedule and other HT information, please log on to :  htp://www.gc.maricopa.edu/htc.  You will be given a tour of the center and the  Macintosh instructional computers that are available to you for this course."

Course Overview/Policies

The course will be released on July 2, 2007. On this date you will go to the Start Here - Daily Notes link and the directions will be laid out for you. The first thing you will be doing is establishing email contact with me and I will give you a password to log in to the lessons/assignments as soon as I verify that you are on the roster. I will not release the lessons/assignments early. If you are one to jump ahead, get the book and work the chapters in it. You will have until August 2, to complete the lessons/assignments. You will be emailing your assignments to me and I will have the directions on how to do this when the course dates start.

Course Description:

Introduction to Macromedia Flash software. Basic foundation in Flash vector graphics, 2D and 3D animation and creation of full motion video with sound. Prerequisites: (ART180AD and ART180AE), or permission of instructor.

Course Objectives

1. Student will review the basic operational system of Macromedia Flash software. (I)
2. Student will utilize the Flash interface's toolbars, menus, palettes, and settings. (II)
3. Student will apply Web safe colors along with design principles in designing with Flash software. (III)
4. Student will create and revise bitmap and vector graphics to produce images for the Web. (IV)
5. Student will develop frame-by-frame operations using Macromedia Flash. (V)
6. Student will evaluate the interaction of sound with animation and movie (.avi) production. (V)
7. Student will output digital images created in Macromedia Flash to the Web and or video. (V)

Grade Scale:

A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 65-79
D = 50-64
F = less than 50

List of projects will be available at the beginning of the course.

WITHDRAWALS: If you are having a problem as to why you cannot finish on time, I will withdraw you or give you a grade for the work you have finished. I will withdraw you at any time, but you have to initiate the request.
