Syllabus

 

Course Description:

This course is the exploring of the basic functions and use of Adobe Premiers Video Editing software applications for computer animation, multimedia, and digital video production.

This course will focus on short tutorials, and small hands-on “production” using computer editing for multimedia. It is strongly recommended that students have some working knowledge of Photoshop and/or computer animation software.

 

Prerequisites: Art100 or permission from instructor.

 

Goals and Objectives:

 

The basic goals and objectives are to develop a basic understanding of the software's fundamental concepts and features, and to explore and experiment in correspondence with your interests and needs.

 

Text and Materials:

 

David D. Peck, Adobe Premier 6.5 “A Practitioner's Guide to the Digital Video Revolution Complete, 2003.”

Software: Adobe Premier

Handouts: Additional handouts will be provided during the course.

At least one Zip Disk and CD's

 

Course Requirements: There will be seven (7) assignments the class will do on their own. The class will go through the projects in the text.

A quiz on terminology will be given before the end of the eight week course.

Participation: Is expected in the form of attendance, classroom work, and helping others.

Grading: Everyone starts the class with an 'A'.

Teaching Methods:

 

Lectures/Demonstrations: The first half of each class will be used to highlight the important material within each unit using interactive discussions, group work, handouts, and computer demos.

 

Labs: The last half of each class is dedicated to hands-on learning, facilitated by the instructor. You will work at your own pace during this portion of the class to solidify the lesson material or to begin project work.

 

Projects: Each project from the text is designed to teach and assist in assembling a video in a straightforward and simple manner. The individual assignments are to give hands on experience in developing your own video, clips, and computer art.

 

Course Policies:

 

Assignments: will be based on what is learned in the text units and class demos.

All assignments are due last week of classes.

 

Academic Dishonesty: Plagiarism and cheating are serious offenses and may be punished by failure on exam, paper or project; failure in course; and/or expulsion from the university. For more information, refer to the "Academic Dishonesty" policy in the college catalog.

Students are encouraged to ask questions about anything they do not understand. This may be in regard to design, or technical aspects of the course.

 

Tapping Policy: It is the opinion of your instructor that taping entire lectures is a poor substitute for good note taking and class participation. However, there are some justifiable reasons for taping a lecture. If you have a reasonable need to tape lectures, please request permission in writing.

 

Software Policy: It is illegal to copy software or typefaces from or to college computers.

 

Student Conduct: No smoking or eating in classrooms or labs. Your questions, answers, participation and discussions in class are encouraged. It is suggested that you take notes during each class session. If you cannot attend class please notify instructor ahead of time. Only projects assigned in class are to be executed on college computers.

 

Etiquette policy: is that all cell phones and pagers are to be turned off when in the classroom or HT center. No food or drinks in the classroom.

 

Be on time.

  Getting started Demo on tools and workspace.

  Read chapters 1 — 2.

 

   Project 1

  Begin Chapter 4 Animating Still Images.

 

  Work on Fireworks video.
