Syllabus

 

Course Description:

 

Introduction to the multiple elements of Photoshop software package using the microcomputer. Basic foundation in the use of electronic techniques including appropriate input and out put production devices. Prerequisites: Art100 or permission of instructor.

 

Goals and Objectives:

 

The basic goals and objectives are to develop a basic understanding of the software's fundamental concepts, features, and to explore and experiment in correspondence with your interests and needs.

 

Text and Materials:

 

Elizabeth Eisner Reding, Adobe Photoshop CS.

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS

Handouts: Additional handouts will be provided during the course.

Zip disk: You will need at least one.

 

Course Requirements:

 

There will be nine (9) assignments the class will do on their own. The class will go through various projects in the text.

 

Participation is expected, in the form of attendance, classroom work and helping others.

 

Attendance is essential, as this is a hand on course and doing is how you learn the software.

Grading: Everyone starts the class with an 'A'.

Teaching Methods:

 

Lectures/Demonstrations: The first half of each class will be used to highlight the important material within each unit using interactive discussions, group work, handouts, and computer demos.

 

Labs: The last half of each class is dedicated to hands-on learning, facilitated by the instructor. You will work at your own pace during this portion of the class to solidify the lesson material or to begin project work.

 

Projects: Each project from the text consists of three parts: the Skills Review, a Project Builder and a Design Project. These projects are designed for you to go through on your own.

 

Course Policies:

 

Assignments: Will be based on what is learned in the text units and class demos.

Assignments: All assignments are due the last week of class.

 

Academic Dishonesty: Plagiarism and cheating are serious offenses and may be punished by failure on exam, paper or project; failure in course; and/or expulsion from the university. For more information, refer to the "Academic Dishonesty" policy in the college catalog.

 

Need for Assistance: If you have any condition, such as a physical or learning disability, for which you need extra assistance, please see me immediately. Students are encouraged to ask questions about anything they do not understand. This may be in regard to design, or technical aspects of the course.

 

Tapping Policy: It is the opinion of your instructor that taping entire lectures is a poor substitute for good note taking and class participation. However, there are some justifiable reasons for taping a lecture. If you have a reasonable need to tape lectures, please request permission in writing.

 

Software Policy: It is illegal to copy software or typefaces from or to college computers.

 

Student Conduct: No smoking or eating in classrooms or labs. Your questions, answers participation and discussions in class are encouraged. It is suggested that you take notes during each class session. If you cannot attend class please notify instructor ahead of time. Only projects assigned in class are to be executed on college computers.

 

Etiquette policy: is that all cell phones and pagers are to be turned off when in the classroom or HT center. No food or drinks in the classroom. Be on time.

  6.    Project 2: Using selection from three or more photo's, composite them into a     new and original image. It can be a landscape a cityscape, a still life, or a       portrait.                  10 pts

     Project 4: colorize a black and white photograph .

 

  11.    Project 5: Using the Marbled Paper and Textures handout create marbled       paper.   Print in color

     Using the Create pattern effects, create a pattern that is eye catching and       appealing.   Print in color
