Basic photographic principles and techniques. Basic camera functions and controls. Experience in the image-making process by creating and editing photographs for various display environments. Introduction to photographic aesthetic and photography's role in society. Camera required. Prerequisites: None.
ART 132 Photography II F,S,D,E,Su1 3 credits 6 periods
Continuation of ART 131. Advanced camera and darkroom techniques. Aesthetic awareness with personal expression. Prerequisites: ART 131, or permission of instructor.
ART 133 Photography III F,S,D,E,Su1 3 credits 6 periods
Refinement of aesthetic and technical aspects producing convincing images of highest quality. Prerequisites: ART 132, or permission of instructor; ART 111, ART 116 recommended but not required.
ART 134 Photography IV F,S,D,E,Su1 3 credits 6 periods
Emphasis on personal statement and style. Related graphic art forms explored. Development of portfolio. Prerequisites: ART 133 or permission of instructor.
ART137 Alternative Photographic Processes, 3 credits, 6 periods
Emphasis on development of alternative photographic processes including technique, aesthetics, and creative imagery. Exploration of various types of non-silver photographic processes including Cyanotype, Van Dyke, Polaroid Imaging, and others. Prerequisites: None
ART 177 Computer-Photographic Imaging

Introduction to the multiple elements of microcomputer-photographic imaging. Basic foundation in the use of the photographic manipulation of images using software programs. Special attention to aesthetic foundations underlying photographic composition. Prerequisites: ART 100 or permission of instructor.
ART 135 Photojournalism I O 3 credits 6 periods
Basic technical knowledge of the photographic process as applied by the mass media. Prerequisites: ART 131 or permission of instructor.
ART 136 Photojournalism II O 3 credits 6 periods
Continuation of ART 135. Continued development of technical approaches utilized by mass media. Prerequisites: ART 135.
ART 142 Introduction to Digital Photography 3 credits 6 period
Fundamentals of digital photography. Includes camera operations, exposure techniques, introduction to digital output, and theory of digital photography. Prerequisites: None. Note: Digital Camera Required.
ART143 Intermediate Digital Photography 3 credits
Intermediate theory and techniques of digital photography. Aesthetic awareness and personal expression from image capture through intermediate techniques in the digital darkroom. Prerequisites: ART142. Note: Semi-adjustable, high resolution digital camera required.
ART 234 Color Photography I O 3 credits 6 periods
Basic principles of color theory, camera and darkroom techniques using positive materials. Prerequisites: ART 131 or permission of instructor.
ART 235 Color Photography II O 3 credits 6 periods
Basic theories and techniques of color negative materials. Prerequisites: ART 234 or permission of instructor.
