Art & Humanities

GCC offers a wide range of classes in the study of art and humanities. Students can choose from a number of disciplines in both theoretical and production-based courses. Degrees and certificates are offered in various mediums that focus on traditional skills through the latest technological advances. Non-Degree-seeking students interested in broadening their artistic skills are also encouraged to enroll. 

 

Degrees and Personal Enrichment

GCC offers production classes in ceramics, drawing, life-drawing, 2-D design, color, 3-D design, glass fusing and slumping, jewelry-making, painting, photography, sculpture, watercolor, animation, graphic design, and film/video. Theory courses are offered in Art History and the Humanities. Faculty foster students to develop critical thinking from both a production and aesthetic point of view. Degree-seeking students can choose from two-year degrees and transfer programs in the areas of Animation, Film and Media Production, Digital Media Arts, Photography and Fine Arts.

 

Dynamic Learning Environments

The Art and Humanities Department is proud to offer students state-of-the-art facilities based on both traditional studio practices and the latest technology trends. From hand-building clay to virtual reality, the student experience is highly valued through customized classroom settings. Many of our classes are currently being offered in Hybrid and Online formats. The Digital Media Arts and Animation Degree programs may be completed entirely Online or in a Hybrid format. The Department's faculty is comprised of scholars and working artists with both local and national recognition.

The Student Art Show is an annual event held in the spring semester at Glendale Community College. Each year, students are encouraged to submit art for a chance to have their art displayed and to receive recognition for their hard work. Details on the 2024 Student Art Show will be announced in the spring semester.

Volume 55 of the Traveler is now available! Pick up your copy from the department office in FA-101 or keep an eye out for one of many Traveler stands around campus. Information on Volume 56 of the Traveler and application details will be posted once available.
