Maintenance and Operations Updates

09/25/02: Construction Update #5

Colleagues,

Introduction

The Fire Lane Project remains on schedule and most of the work around the LA, 01, 02 and B Bldgs. has been completed. Work now begins on the north end of the campus and will proceed south on the mall toward the center of campus. You will soon have the opportunity to become personally acquainted with Grasspave 2 (see Update # 4).

The link below connects this message to the campus construction map. Click on now for a quick look.

Construction Highlights: September 27 - October 11

  • The contractor has completed work on the sidewalks around the 01 and 02 Bldgs and on the north and south sidewalks connecting the B and LA Bldgs.

  • The small picnic pads between the 01 and 02 Bldgs. and the 02 and LA Bldgs were poured this week and are now back in service. Red concrete was used for both areas and looks great. This same treatment will be used on other gathering places along the north south fire lane next month.

  • Construction will commence on the north south running mall lane. The contractor will begin at the north end of the campus, near the Physical Sciences (PS) Bldg. and proceed south as far as the sidewalk that connects the Math and HT 1 Bldgs. Both concrete and Grasspave work will be done simultaneously. Some sidewalk detours will be necessary.

  • Sod removal, irrigation installation and electrical work (light poles) continues along the north south mall from the PS Bldg. south to the center of campus and east toward the Humanities Classroom Bldg. (HU) Sidewalk access is not impacted.

  • The renovation of the SPS Bldg. (east side) began on September 9th. The project is scheduled for completion on February 6th. The contractor has erected fencing around the entire building. Please remain out of of this building unless escorted.

(Like a syllabus, this schedule is tentative and activities may conclude early)
