09/05/02: Construction Update #3
Colleagues,
Introduction
The College's Fire Lane Project is moving faster than expected, despite several armed robberies that have disrupted Circle K coffee service for the contractors. Our contractors are working between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. and need that caffeine lift around 2 a.m. Even without stimulants they remain ahead of schedule and are working hard to maintain this lead.
Red and Blue and Orange
The contruction map color coding takes a slight twist this week. So that we can maintain access in and around the 01, 02, 05 and the LA Buildings, sidewalk work will be phased. Red will indicate next week's work (Sep 7-13) and orange the following week (Sep 14-20). Blue depicts completed work. Chairs and/or secretaries of affected departments have already been briefed and will reinforce this message. The link below connects this message to the campus construction map. Construction Highlights: September 7 - 13
- Sidewalk replacement between the TDS Bldg. and the B Bldg. is completed. This includes the pick-up and drop off apron on the south side of the north south mall.
- Sidewalk replacement on the east side of the TDS Bldg., from the pick-up and drop off apron to the center mall is completed and will open on Monday.
- Sidewalk work around the 01, 02 and 05 Bldgs. will commence immediately. The contractor will work on the sidewalks between the 01 and 02 Bldgs., one half of the sidewalk running from the SW corner of the 01 Bldg. to the intersection with the sidewalk on the east side of the 02 Bldg, and the section of sidewalk from the NW corner of the 01 Bldg. to the NW corner of the 02 Bldg. Ramp access to the mall will continue to be available.
- The small picnic pads between the 01 and 02 Bldgs. and the 02 and LA Bldgs. remain out of service. Concrete pouring will occur in two weeks, concurrent with the pouring of other areas.
- Sod removal and irrigation installation continues along the north south mall from the Life Science Bldg. (LS) south to the center of campus. Sidewalk access is not affected at this time.
- Electrical work (light poles) and irrigation replacement activities continue along the edges of the north south and east west malls. Access or sidewalk use is not affected.
- The East Side renovation of the SPS Bldg. will begin on September 9th. The project is scheduled for completion on February 6th. The contractor will begin staging later next week. There should be no additonal disruption to campus access or to instruction.
Construction Highlights: September 14 - 20
- Sidewalk work around the 01, 02, and 05 Bldgs. will continue. The contractor will replace the sidewalk on the west side of the 01Bldg., the sidewalk on the east side of the 02 Bldg., and the remaining half of the sidewalk running from the SW corner of the 01 Bldg. to the intersection with the sidewalk on the east side of the 02 Bldg. The section of sidewalk from the NW corner of the 02 Bldg. to the NW corner of the LA Bldg. will also be replaced.
