05/14/03: Construction Update #9
Colleagues,
Summer 2003...
The semester is almost over, but for M&O, summer is a time of renewal. This summer the Center for Learning (CL), High Tech Annex (HTA) and Language Arts (LA) Buildings will be the focus of attention. The following is a brief synopsis of what is planned for these facilities.
Center for Learning...
Project activity for CL will begin on May 19th and conclude the week of August 4-11. The Language Lab in CL 41 will be moved to HU-111 (permanently) and classrooms CL 41, 42 and 43 refreshed and reconfigured to support 27-30 person classes. Refreshment includes new paint, baseboards, tile and carpet, and ceiling tile. All CL offices will receive similar treatment.During this project, the CL will be relocated and some faculty offices will have to remain closed until August 4-11. Those impacted have been notified and we thank all for their willingness to work with the College. Center for Learning offices and activities will be moving into HT 2- Rooms 113, 115, 140 and Control East. Phone numbers will not change. Classrooms CL 10-15 will not be impacted, and will support Summer I and II classes as scheduled.
HTA...
Al and the landscape crew worked their magic on the outside of HTA over the Winter Break. Now it's time for the inside. This project will be completed during Summer II, July 1 - August 18. All nine HTA classrooms will be painted, retiled and ceiling tiles will be replaced. Cables for presentation systems will be routed under the floor tiles, and depending on funding, bathrooms may be upgraded. Those using HTA classrooms 3 and 5 during Summer I will be asked to curtail presentation system use a day or two prior to semester end. This will allow Scott Kozak time to remove the systems and place them in storage prior to contractors entering the building.
LA...
Like HTA, the LA classrooms will be refreshed during Summer II, July 1 - August 18th. Treatment will be the same as the HTA classrooms. Again, those using LA 101, 104, 105, 106, 108 and 141 will be asked to curtail presentation system use to allow removal before contractors begin work. Offices in LA will not be renovated, though some noise will be experienced. If anyone desires a more detailed timeline for any of the above projects, the attached document will provide additional information.
Salute...
We appreciate everyone's cooperation with these renovations. In order to maximize available classrooms for Summer I, some projects were delayed. Timelines are tight on both of the Summer II projects, hence the need to start on time, to remove sensitive equipment early.Undoubtedly some Summer II classes will have to be moved. Please work with Mary Ann Estopeyan and your Department Chairs and secretaries to minimize confusion and make the transition seam-less to the students.
Thanks and Old Updates...
If you have been reading these updates over the past year, you have become conversant with terms like Grasspave, Gravelpave, Dick Fossbury, EYES, College Commons and ASK ME. If you've missed this educational journey, you can still access back issues on the College's website under: Info for Employees - Construction Updates, where each update is archived, forever (that's why we call it life-long learning).
Commencement...
Commencement is not an end, rather a beginning. Last July, the first of Construction Update was published. Your observations, questions and comments promoted positive change, and the College responded. But, none of this would have been possible without the dedication, creativity and adaptability of the District, and the College's M&O staff. My sincere thanks to Arlen Solochek, John Sazama, Al Gonzales, Jim Tharp and the entire M&O staff. In closing, have a safe and enjoyable summer.
