Quick Master Planning Summary

The following is a quick update on Master Planning projects for GCC Main.

Public Safety Sciences Building

The Public Safety Sciences Building project continues on track, due for completion in December 2009. This week the building took form with the pouring of the concrete building slab, colored sidewalks, and driveway aprons. Soon, the training plane on the east side will appear, joining six fire hydrants that now dot the landscape. Next week the structural steel will arrive. Steel will be installed over a two week period, providing a third dimension to the facility. As you can see from the rendition below, this will be a very exciting building in and around which to train future first responders. Please see Public Safety Sciences Construction Gallery #1 for a visual update on construction progress.

Business Building Remodel

One can not help but notice the progress being made on the Business Building. New windows and doors are being installed and complement a "pass through" or breezeway that give the building a more modern and open appearance. The new railing along the second floor balcony not only brings the building into compliance with today's safety codes, but adds to the classic lines of this building. An elevator pit on the east side sports specially finished block walls which will be color matched to the existing brick. Sidewalks surrounding the structure will be poured later this month and stairwells, outboard of the building, will arrive soon. This building will be ready for Business in August 2009. Please see Business Building Construction Gallery #2 for a visual update on construction progress.

Summary

In closing, let me express the College's sincere appreciation to those who have shared ideas, expertise and time toward the master planning process, development of the College's Project Lists, educational specifications, review of proposals and selection of architects and construction firms. Every attempt has been made to be inclusive, and the College will continue this approach as we plan, design and construct each project. If anyone desires a copy of documentation for any specific project, please email me and I will provide a copy or direct you to an on-line link. Please stay engaged. With your continued participation and ideas, GCC will become what we dream.
