Adjunct Faculty: In the Loop

FAQ: Student Services / Student Life

What advice can the college provide to adjunct faculty on dealing with and supporting students with a learning disability?

The Office of Disability Services and Resources (http://www.gc.maricopa.edu/dsr/) in the TDS Building is able to provide faculty and employees with various strategies to support students with learning disabilities. When a student has presented supporting documentation to DSR and requested accommodations, the student will bring each faculty member a document that describes those accommodations.

What advice can the college provide to adjunct faculty on dealing with and supporting students who are unable to speak English?

The Office of Multicultural Services (http://www.gc.maricopa.edu/studentservices/multicultural) is an office that can assist you in working with students who do not speak English at a level adequate to succeed in your class. We also offer a wide array of classes to teach English as a Second Language.

Are ACE+ students allowed to smoke on the college campus?

All students must obey the tobacco-free environment regulations that apply to areas where smoking is prohibited. We do no enforcement beyond this regulation.

How does the college handle classes where there is a lack of qualified tutors, i.e. Foreign Languages?

The Center for Learning (http://www.gc.maricopa.edu/cfl) makes every possible effort to hire tutors for all classes where a need exists. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to find qualified tutors for some of our higher-level courses. Based on this question at our orientation session, an effort is being made to hire some of our International Students to provide foreign language tutoring.
