Adjunct Faculty Representative's Welcome
Dear Adjunct Faculty,Please allow me to introduce myself as your new GCC Adjunct Faculty Association representative for the 2008-2009 academic year. My name is Karen Russo and I have served the Maricopa Community College District as an adjunct instructor since the early 1990s, teaching for both Estrella Mountain and Glendale Community Colleges. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, a Masters degree in Management, and am in the dissertation phase of a PhD in the Philosophy of Education with emphasis on Instructional Design for Online Learning. (Dissertation topic: An Instructional Design Method for Online Community College Composition Courses - a Delphi study. If you're interested in being on my expert panel, please let me know.)
My full-time job for the last 20 years has been with Glendale Community College. I am currently the Coordinator of Technology Training and Employee Development. Be on the lookout for increased training opportunities designed to meet your needs as an adjunct.
Adjunct Faculty are an integral part of any community college. We as an association are very important, and a vital resource to GCC. Please read your GCC Adjunct Faculty Newsletter and be aware of any issues that affect us as a team. As your representative, I serve as a member of the President's Advisory Council and the District-wide Adjunct Faculty Association. Please feel free to contact me with your concerns so I can adequately represent you.
I urge you to join the Adjunct Faculty Association. The membership fee is only $15.00. Your involvement as a member means the association has a stronger voice as we lobby for issues such as salary increases and benefits. The Adjunct Faculty Association has successfully increased salary and benefits for the last four years. During one of those years adjunct faculty were the only employees to receive an increase in salary.
