Successful Semesters

This information will help make your semesters a success:

  • Drop students who do not attend the first day of class and update your roster on what is called 45th day roster clean-up. The 45th day roster provides a snapshot of student enrollment and impacts GCC state funding.
  • Enforce your attendance policy.
  • Understand what media services are available, including printing. If you need help in your classroom, call Media Services on Main: 623-845-3119 or at North: 623-845-4119.
  • Check the GCC finals week schedule so you know the correct date and time that you should be conducting your finals.
  • Post final grades by the established deadline.
  • If you need to change a final grade after you have posted that information, contact your department secretary for the forms.
  • If you need to cancel a class, contact your department secretary. If this is a last minute cancellation, contact Public Safety as well.
  • Understand the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and take the FERPA tutorial. You must complete the FERPA tutorial before you can access SIS.
  • Complete the relevant mandatory training courses related to public stewardship and your responsibilities working at the community college.
  • Respond appropriately to any disruptive or threatening Student Behavior by reporting the incident to your department chair and the GCC Office of Student Life.
  • Thirteen Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) are located on our campus. These are to be used on someone you think is having a sudden cardiac arrest.
  • Acquaint yourself with the location of phones in the classroom, and if there are locks on your classroom door, know how to work them.
  • GCC is in the process of installing an emergency alert system. Once this is completed, be sure to understand the procedures involved with this system.
