FAQ: Publilc Safety / Emergency Procedures
How do College Safety personnel distinguish student vehicles from employee vehicles, without decals?
Some of the College Safety staff are able to access Motor Vehicle Department information, so when running a license plate number we can determine whether or not the plate is listed to a student or employee.
Are parking decals required for faculty teaching at ASU West? If needed, how do faculty acquire decals? Is there a cost involved, and who pays?
I am not sure whether ASU West requires decals for their employees and if there is a cost involved. ASU West decals are not valid on our campus and an employee would have to obtain a GCC decal if teaching at the GCC campus.
Are year stickers still required?
No. That procedure was eliminated approximately one year ago.
How long are employee decals valid?
In the past, the requirement was to obtain a new decal every five years. This has now changed, and the decal is valid for the length of time the numbers on that decal are legible.
What does it mean when the phone in a classroom rings?
The phone could be ringing for a number of reasons. The phones in the classrooms are to be used only in emergencies, and the classroom phone extensions are not distributed to employees. In some cases it may be due to a wrong number, but it is important to answer the phone in the event an emergency exists and whomever is calling is attempting to notify the class.
Does College Safety provide escorts to and from the parking lots for adjunct faculty?
Yes. College Safety personnel provide escorts to students, staff, and visitors on our campus. If you would like an escort, simply call College Safety at x53535, request an escort, and give your location. College Safety personnel will respond to your location and provide you with this service.
What are the qualifications for the College Safety staff (students)?
There are no specific qualifications for new student staff members except the willingness to learn! When a College Safety guard is hired, he/she is required to complete a two-week training period and is under the direction of, and with, a supervisor at all times. After this two week training period, the guard is then closely monitored by that supervisor for an additional two-week period. If the student has grasped the assignments and responsibilities required of them, they are allowed to work solo, if not, they will receive additional training in any decifient areas.
