Glendale Community College

Adjunct Faculty: In the Loop

FAQ: eGCC

Do adjunct faculty have access to various software packages owned by the college?

A wide range of software (the "Standard Suite of Tools") is licensed for the eGCC and is available to use on all academic workstations, such as in the computer commons of the High Tech Centers and the Library Media Center. All adjunct faculty should activate their eGCC accounts and access these resources.

What programs are available on eGCC?

The programs available include the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Powerpoint, Access, etc.), web browsers, graphics programs, and other such basics. See http://www.gc.maricopa.edu/studenthelpdesk and http://www.gc.maricopa.edu/ic/facultyresources/ for more details.

Can we use these programs at home?

Generally, no, unless you own the same software for the home. You can access your files from home, but not the application programs running on eGCC stations. Usually, you may not borrow copies of the software to download at home, but there are exceptions to the rule. The campus agreement with Microsoft expands our license to the Office suite to all employees; this means that as a GCC instructor, you may check out a CD from the Help Desk (call ext. 53555) for downloading these programs for work purposes on your home machine.

Do we get our own space on the Network? Can we publish a web site?

Yes, with your eGCC account you get your own directory on gccaz.edu in which to store files for your own access. The default amount of space is 15 MB, some of which is spent on system needs when you log into an academic station. In your directory (typically set up as the H: drive), you may create a subdirectory for publishing a web site. For directions, see http://web.gccaz.edu/studenthelpdesk/webspace.html.

Can we access eGCC from home?

Although you cannot open the application programs running on academic stations, you can access your own account from home. That is, you can use your eGCC e-mail, as well as send and receive files from your H: drive and web space. For details about these points, see http://web.gccaz.edu/studenthelpdesk/work_offcampus.html.
