Paul Pair, retired Senior Education Consultant of Control Data Corporation, was president of the Foundation in 1985. The funds for the Paul Pair Endowed Chair are managed by the well-qualified board of directors of the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation. The Maricopa Foundation is a private, nonprofit 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization. Its mission is to supplement the financial needs of Maricopa Community Colleges. The Foundation is designated to receive gifts on behalf of the colleges from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Community philanthropists, individuals, large corporations, small businesses, alumni, and friends are among the contributors, including many members of Maricopa Community Colleges' faculty and staff. Over the past few years, faculty and staff contributions alone have reached close to $800,000. Contributions come from those who understand education's vital role and from those who believe America's future and even its economic survival depend on an educated work force. Contributors with limited means are as welcome as those more financially secure. Four out of every ten county residents have attended one of the Maricopa colleges. Fifty-one percent of Arizona State University's upper division enrollment are transfers from Maricopa Community Colleges. The colleges train and educate more local company employees than any other educational institution in Arizona. The challenge of employee retraining to meet the changing job market is being well met by Maricopa Community Colleges with the help of partnerships and generous contributors. For more information, see the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation web site at http://www.dist.maricopa.edu/foundation/ or call (480) 731-8400. |
