STARS scholarship deadline Sept. 16Please remind students that the STARS 2011-2012 scholarship application deadline is Sept. 16. Launched on Aug. 8, the new online system allows students, for the first time, to receive confirmations, acceptance letters and surveys by electronic messaging.
If you have been asked by a student to provide a letter of recommendation, make certain to respond by Sept.16, or the student's application will not be complete and will not be considered for a scholarship! If possible, please post the scholarship link http://www.gccaz.edu/scholarships on Blackboard. Students find the information helpful for GCC scholarships and other local, regional and national scholarship opportunities.
"The STARS application wizard helps students find the scholarships for which they are best suited with just a click of the mouse," says Frances Mateo, GCC coordinator of Development and Scholarship Relations. "The 2011-2012 scholarships and their criteria details are listed and, in addition to the wealth of scholarships previously offered, we have added 10 more." Scholarships available range from health care, fire science, police academy, automotive, adult re-entry, and the list goes on.
Once they've submitted their applications, students can return at any time to check on the results. For students needing help to complete their application there is a seminar 10 a.m. to noon, Thursday, Sept. 15, with Coordinator Mateo at the computer pods in the main campus Enrollment Center to advise students who are filing scholarship applications.
