Banner Thunderbird Supports GCC Nursing Program

Francesca M. Bouchard has been awarded a $6,000 scholarship by the Banner Thunderbird Medical Center Volunteers. The scholarship will cover her tuition, books and other expenses during the two-year nursing program. She is the 19th GCC nursing student to be awarded the scholarship since 1992.

Bouchard graduates from GCC fall 2012 and continues her goal to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing through the GCC/NAU campus partnership. Her goal is to ultimately become a wound care nurse in the ER or ICU. She is the first in her family to go to college. This was her first time applying for a scholarship.

She is an outstanding student, attends college full-time, maintains a 3.65 GPA, volunteers in the community and works at the Arizona State Hospital.

In the future, she wants to be with Nurses without Borders and travel to third world countries as a team member to assist with surgical/wound care. She is attending the Southwest Trauma & Acute Care Symposium with Dr. Peter Rhee, University of Arizona Chief of Trauma, Critical Care, & Emergency Surgery, as one of the guest speakers. For additional information regarding scholarship opportunities email Frances.Mateo@gcmail.maricopa.edu or apply for scholarships via STARS Online.

For more GCC scholarship opportunities visit the scholarship and financial aid website. If you are interested in establishing a scholarship, contact Judy.Sanchez@gcmail.maricopa.edu, director of development, or call 623-845-3481.
