Student Emergency Fund Available

Thanks to the generosity of those who donated to the Student Emergency Fund in the Spring of 2012, help is available to GCC students. Understanding the criteria and process is critical to avoid misguiding students. As stewards of this funding, the Counseling Department has outlined the following process for emergency funds.

Purpose   Provide assistance for students who demonstrate a short-term and limited financial need due to unexpected or unforeseen circumstances.

What Constitutes an Emergency?   The emergency fund will be used to provide students with help related to transportation (bus passes) and other basic necessities such as food or personal items. Funds cannot be used for tuition, books, rent or utility bills and is not intended to be ongoing nor an extensive source of assistance. Assistance is allowed only one-time per semester.

Process for Awarding Funds
1. Students must be referred by a GCC employee. Please send a note or business card including your contact information with the student or escort them to the Counseling Department.
2. Students must be officially enrolled, provide a photo I.D and student number for verification purposes.
3. Students must meet with a GCC Counselor. Funding will be decided based on circumstances.
4. Students will need to complete an action plan with a counselor to cope with individual situations and help eliminate future emergencies.

Again, we stress the importance of having a clear understanding for the purpose, criteria and process concerning the Student Emergency Fund. Bookmark this article as a reference or give our office a call (623-845-3064). if you have additional questions. submitted by the Counseling Department
