ESL - English as a Second LanguageGLENDALE Community College offers an ESL Program and other classes to improve students' English skills. The ESL program is designed for international students who need to improve their English language proficiency before undertaking an academic program of study. Students in the ESL program will take a combination of English classes appropriate to their level in such areas as grammar, reading, vocabulary development, conversation, listening, pronunciation practice, and composition skills. Admission to the ESL program is open to any student who has finished high school, who has at least an intermediate command of English, and who wants to prepare for a college-level academic program. Students applying from outside the United States will have to qualify for an F-1 student visa in order to be allowed to enter the United States to study. Students admitted to the ESL program are automatically admitted to the college as full-time college students. They are eligible to continue in an academic program as soon as they finish the ESL program. When all of these are received, they will be reviewed and an admission decision will be reached. Admitted students will qualify for the I-20 Certificate of Eligibility needed to apply for a student (F-1) visa. |
