Glendale Upsets Top 5 AWC
It took a total team effort for the Gauchos to come away with a 34-33 overtime road win over previously unbeaten Arizona Western.CB Diondre Moore-Young intercepted a pass on the opening drive and returned it to the 2 yard line to set up Patrick Browne's (Tolleson) 1 yard TD score.
Down 10-7 at the half, the two team's battled back and forth the entire second half. Glendale got scores from WR Willie Rzucidlo and RB Devontre Burkes while AWC's QB Tanner McEvoy threw and ran for scores.
Down 3, Glendale kicker Mike Navarro (Deer Valley) hit his second field goal of the game to tie the score at 27 and send it into overtime.
Glendale scored on the second play in OT on a 25 yard Dan McFarland (Centennial) TD pass to Rzucidlo. Arizona Western matched the score but missed the PAT and Glendale secured the win to improve to 6-2 on th eseason.
McFarland threw for 256 yards and 2 TDs on the night.
Glendale's defense was led by Dallas Nichols (Central) who had 15 total tackles.
Glendale plays Scottsdale this Saturday at 7 PM at home for homecoming.
