Gauchos Out to 2-2 Start

Week 1- American Sports University W 56-0

The Gauchos got the season out on the right foot with an early victory over visiting ASU. A 49-0 halftime lead led to a running clock in the second half and a 56-0 win for GCC.

Offensively, Glendale was led by John Hughes' (Centennial) two TD runs and Terense Wilson's (Buckeye) two TD grabs. Brian Conley (Westview) and Mike Vaughn (La Joya) had two rushing scores each.

Defensively, the Gauchos got sacks from Rusty Fernando (Apache Junction), Kyle Weinadt, Greg Gurrola (Camelback) and Dashaun Briggs (Boulder Creek). David Godley from Paradise Valley had an INT.

Week 2- Phoenix College L 2-8

The rain made for a sloppy game with multiple fumbles and turnovers and costly penalties kept the Gauchos out of the endzone. The Gaucho D played tough all night and came up with the only score for Glendale on a safety by Kyle Weinandt. PC scored after a fumbled punt return gave the Bears the ball in scoring position. GCC and PC play again on 10/10 in conference play.

Week 3- Pima 20-19

The Gauchos built an early 12-3 lead and fought rebounded back from a 4th quarter deficit to get their second win of the year 20-19 over a much improved Pima team.

RB DeAngelo Jones led all rushers with 88 yards on 21 carries and a score. Brad Jackson (Coolidge) had a rushing TD and TE Cody Van Horne (Central) caught a scoring pass from QB Jamie Valdez (Sunnyside).

A late score by Pima gave the chance to tie the game at 20 but David Godley (Paradise Valley) blocked the PAT.

DL Eustice Miles had an interception and sack to lead the defense.

Week 4- Eastern Arizona L 15-22

Leading 15-14 late in the game, Glendale had their hearts broken on a late long TD pass to give the visiting Gila Monsters (#8 team in NJCAA) a win.

Brad Jackson (Coolidge) and Brian Conley (Westview) tied for the team lead in rushing and Jackson scored his second TD of the season. QB Kevin Yost (Mt. Ridge) hooked up with FB CJ Morgan (Goldwater) in the first half for a short TD pass and Yost added a two-point conversion run after Jackson's score.

Terell Thompson had an INT for the defense. The Gaucho D played tough defense all night, forcing multiple turnovers against EAC's tough rushing attack.
