Glendale moves into Top 10 with win over Western

The Glendale Gauchos improved to 4-1 with a 30-14 win over Arizona Western on Saturday and are currently ranked the #10 team in the NJCAA.

The Gauchos played well on both sides of the ball against the AWC amassing nearly 400 yards of total offense while holding the Matadors to just 158 yards.

Offensively, quarterback Tyler Hosler played well, completing 13 of 24 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns. Scoring throws went to wide receiver Jimmy Goad and fullback Sean Barrett. Tight end Cody Van Horne led all receivers with three receptions for 72 yards.

Another strong defensive effort was led by sophomore J.J. Sanchez, who recorded 10 tackles and two sacks from his nose guard spot. Safeties Max Moyes and Winston Venable each pitched in 10 tackles a piece. Safety Jake Long had a nice performance, registering nine total tackles, including two for losses and his 25 yard interception returned for a score sealed the game for the Gauchos. Moyes and corner Rajric Coleman also had interceptions on Saturday.

The Gauchos face #13 ranked Eastern Arizona on Saturday in Thatcher. Kickoff is at 6 pm.
